As expected, a tough encounter was anticipated against a Camberley side still in four Cup Quarter finals (including FA Vase) and still very much involved in challenging for the League title.
We were in good shape following our win against RPV on Saturday, severe traffic delays threatened our starting line-up as a number of players arrived late and in the end only one enforced change meant that Tom Hall came in for Jazzy who joined the bench on arrival. The players were determined to put on a much improved performance than our previous visit to Camberley in the League cup where we simply did not turn up – the boys did not disappoint!!!!!
Camberley took an early lead after 12 minutes when the lively Coles scored with a simple finish following a knock-down in the box, it was pleasing to see us recover well from this early setback, matching our opponents. Both sides proceeded to cancel each other out with limited goalmouth action and both keepers rarely tested.
The pattern continued into the second half, with 20 minutes remaining Quash forced a foul, a superb free kick from Joe found the head of Qas (his 1st goal in a Spelly shirt) for an excellently worked equaliser, prompting celebrations from the players and Spelly travelling support.
The match ebbed and flowed for the remainder of the match without too many clear cut chances for either side and we comfortably held out for a fully deserved point.
An excellent team effort all over the pitch. Qas probably just about shading Cal for the MOM.
Again on the road Saturday where we travel to Horley Town FC, we hope to improve on the draw achieved at the Spelly earlier in the season.
Up the Spelly!!
