Good afternoon,
Today we welcome Raynes Park Vale FC management, players and supporters.
Both teams fought out a draw at Raynes Park Vale in December, always a difficult place to go and get a result; we played well on the day but in the end had to rely on substitute Simon Muir to score a last gasp equaliser to rescue a point. Fully expect a tougher encounter where we expect a reaction from the squad to get back to winning ways at the fortress and a welcome three points!
Since we hammered Badshot Lea here 6-2 on 9th January where Qas earned the MOM award and champagne, our last 4 matches have resulted in a disappointing run of form with three defeats and a draw before today. Two defeats in cups, firstly was in the League cup versus Camberley where had hoped to progress!! Camberley fully deserved their 5-1 win, where we simply and very unexpectedly failed to turn up (Not like us and not what we expect), our goal coming from Joe Lynch who is now unavailable due to work commitments, though hopefully we will see Joe back in a Spelly shirt next season.
The next cup defeat against Northwood in the Middlesex Senior Cup was a completely different story, the lads can hold their heads up high as we lost narrowly by two goals to one. Our goal coming from Quashie with a thunderbolt of a strike. we worked tirelessly matching our higher league opposition in every area and our overall performance meant we could feel a little unlucky not to take the tie into extra time.
Between those was a single goal defeat at Farnham where Dane was our MOM which says it all, frustrating as overall we controlled large parts of the game without creating too many chances, an outstanding and match winning save from their keeper denied us a point in the end.
Last Week we rescued a point at a “dogged” AFC Hayes with a strike from Conor Moody again who had somewhat hit a bit of a goal drought by his own high standards. Conor was also our MOM. We say it a lot, but we need to be more ruthless and put sides to bed when we are on top. We welcomed Joe Hughes to the club who recently signed from our close neighbours Bedfont Sports making his full debut.
We have had a good week and a chance to get a few walking wounded rested and treated and should be back to full strength today.
Enjoy the match.
Up the Spelly!
