On a day more suitable to England’s normal summer game, the FA Cup kicked off at Spelthorne’s home of Spelly. A great advert for non-league football saw The Spelly come out on top of a tight affair. Hartley Wintney went ahead after 14 minutes with a Sam Argent goal before Spelly equalised 2 minutes later with a Lee Staples header. The Row went 2-1 up after 33 minutes with a great finish from Ross Cook and that was the score at half time. The second half started much the same as the first with Hartley Wintney on top, but on the hour good work down the Spelly right ended with Olu Akinsaya finishing it off with a good strike. 2-2. The Spelly were only level for 7 minutes before Hartley Wintney regained the lead with a goal from Dean Stow. Then with both sides making changes, on came Ahmed Farah who struck from 25 yards to draw The Spelly level. In the last minute a great knock down, from MOM Lee Staples, to new signing Tommy Mooney who skipped past the defence to take Spelly through.
