First CCL Home game this season

Knaphill produced a below par performance on Bank Holiday Monday as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Spelthorne Sports.

Manager Keith Hills was unable to call upon the services of defenders Timmy Taylor(away), Jack Collins(broken toes), Josh Watkins(ankle) and midfielders Brad Taylor(away), Connor Close(ankle), George Frith(knee) and Darryn Hennesey(groin) but kept faith with a side that finished the win on Saturday against AFC Hayes.

It was a bright start for Knaphill, although despite having a decent amount of possession, they could not find a way through a dogged home defence. (Richards, Rees, Roach, Sotonwa) At the other end the hosts had the clearer chances, one which rattled Knaphill keeper Richard Shelley's crossbar and an effort which looked goal bound went wide of Shelley's right hand upright.

Jimmy Norman came closet for Knaphill but despite two well struck free kicks, his efforts were just wide of the target. Robbie Kersley almost put his side in front after a neat one two with Jack Mazzone on the edge of the Spelthorne's 18 yard box however a last ditch tackle saw his effort blocked and out safely for a corner.

The second half Knaphill rarely threatened the hosts goal, Jack Mazzone was the only one who troubled the Sport keeper (BUSS) but his shot was easily gathered and it was the hosts who took the lead, a ball down the left hand side caught defender Scott Costello out of position and the Spelthorne player (OLU) went one on one with skipper Jamie Doble,an a inch perfect cross was delivered across the face of goal and duly dispatched to put the home side in front on 71 minutes.

Knaphill responded well however the final ball and the falure to test the home keeper was their downfall and Keith Hills side were punished in stoppage time when Spelthorne substitute LewisFlatman got the better of the Knaphill defence and fired a shot across Shelley into the far cormer to seal the win.

Overall a poor display from Knaphill and a game they could of easily of won on another day, however taking nothing away from Spelthorne who deserved the win.
