Spelthorne Sports 2 Raynes Park Vale 1
An excellent result to get three points on the board where we ran out 2-1 winners against an in-form Raynes Park Vale side who had won their last four matches.
RPV started the more brightly in an opening twenty minute spell, where we needed Dane at his best on a couple of occasions. We eventually got into the match and took control for the remainder of the half, a tidy strike from Ashley and a clinical finish from Conor put us in a commanding position. The match really should have been out of RPV reach when we were awarded a penalty, only for Conor uncharacteristically clearing the crossbar from the spot.
The second half from our point of view was disappointing as we let RPV assert themselves and when they scored with twenty minutes still to play it, one wondered whether we would be made to pay for not taking our chances. We held out for the win but it was an uncomfortable end to the match where Dane made some excellent crucial saves to earn the champagne with a man of the match performance and three very welcome points. The boys dug in and can be applauded for that but once again it demonstrates the importance of killing teams off.
We now travel to title and Vase chasing Camberley on Tuesday, we will need to put on a better show than our last visit to Camberley in January if we are to take anything from the match.
