Credit to the grounds staff and in particular Andy Lee for getting the game on, unsurprisingly the pitch was rather heavy.
A minutes silence was impeccably observed as reflection on the previous evening's Paris atrocities.
We lost Qas on the morning of the match; Jamie Richards was drafted into the starting line-up and had an excellent match alongside Franky, who in fact scooped the Dom Perignon after being named by our supporters as “Man of the Match” in a tight vote with Jamie.
We were aware of the threat that Wood possess going forward and they did not disappoint us in an opening 25 minute period that saw a number of chances go begging, some in wasteful fashion and one that Dane pulled off with a tremendous save. We scored on 30 minutes which was “slightly” against the run of play when Young in the Wood goal, who went on to make some routine saves, miss-kicked what should have been a straight forward clearance allowing that man Moody again, a finish that he made look easier than it possibly was on a trying pitch. Following the goal we had our tails up and the goal seemed to affect CW as we dominated the last 10 minutes. We picked up a couple of bookings for Hicksy and Staples for tackles (not dissent!) in this 1st half.
We started the 2nd half as we ended the first half with us on top, following a good save from Young, Franky Law headed home from a corner on 51 minutes, 2 nil up, in what seemed a commanding position but Wood were having none of it and in no mood to surrender, on 69 minutes after a succession of corners and Wood pressure, Harding headed home from a set piece which was disappointing from our viewpoint. Buss made a couple of smart saves as Wood laid siege, credit to the boys as we had to dig in and lay their bodies on the line, doing the ugly stuff to gain an excellent three points against a very good Wood side.
